To calculate the family quotient for your household which is used for:

• the payment of certain allowances paid by the Family Benefits Department (if you are a claimant),
• determining the category in which you and your beneficiaries are classed for setting tariffs for the fees to be paid to doctors, dental surgeons and paramedics.

There are three colour categories for cards (green - pink - buff) based on the amount of the family quotient. The card colour category is used to set the amount of the fees.  
For all practical purposes, the colour of the card that you currently hold remains valid until you receive the new card.
