Payment of allowances

 

  • How much are family allowances?
    • The amount of a full monthly allowance varies depending on the child's age. It is fixed annually by the C.A.M.T.I. Committees. It is updated every year on October, 1st. To check the current rate, click here.
  • How much are prenatal allowances?
    • The amount of the full monthly payment of Prenatal Allowances is equal to that of the Family Allowances paid for a child aged under three, which is €166.40 on October 1, 2023 .
  • How are prenatal allowances paid?
    • They are paid in three parts:
      • The first part amounts to two monthly payments on provision of a valid pregnancy declaration and the First Trimester of Pregnancy examination report.
      • The second part amounts to four monthly payments on provision of the report of the Second Trimester of Pregnancy report.
      • The third part amounts to three monthly payments on provision of the Eighth Month of Pregnancy Examination and the postnatal examination Reports.
  • What if my contributions are not up to date?
    • Access to family allowances depends on the regular payment of contributions to C.A.M.T.I. In the event of non-compliance with this obligation, family services are not provided.
  • What happens with regards to family allowances if I update my contributions?
    • Where outstanding contributions are settled within two years of their due date, access to family allowances is retrospective.
  • What parent receives family allowance payments?
    • The parent who is the official beneficiary is paid family allowances.
    • They are paid to the contributor who is, by default, the beneficiary.
  • I am changing my bank details, what procedures should I follow?
    • In the event of a change of bank details, an original signed RIB [Bank details form] accompanied by a copy of both sides of the account-holders identity card must be sent by mail to the Finance Department.
  • I wish to connect to my account to obtain a breakdown of family allowances, how should I proceed?
    • - If you are both the contributor and the beneficiary, you should connect using your registration number and your date of birth.
    • - If the contributor is the other parent, you should connect using:
      • Your own registration number and your date of birth,
      • Otherwise, use the other parent's registration number and your date of birth.
    • The password is the one on the circular you were sent when you registered.
    • In this space, you should change your password and opt electronic family services.
  • I received a letter from CAF requesting that I refund a payment I was not due, what should I do?
    • If the file is in the process of being transferred between CAF and C.C.S.S., you should ignore this request: you do not have to pay CAF directly.
    • In fact, CAF will send us a debt notice. We will then withhold this amount from your family allowances on behalf of CAF until the debt is settled.
  • Are family allowances means-tested?
    • A household's resources are not a criterion of assessment for access to family services provided by C.A.M.T.I.
  • Who receives family allowances in an alternate custody situation?
    • If your child is living with each parent alternately, family allowances are shared by the parents, unless they or a judge has decided otherwise.
